The Pirates are awaiting word on whether starting pitcher Charlie Morton will need season-ending surgery on his injured right elbow.

Morton, already on the disabled list with right elbow inflammation, has not pitched since he tweaked the injury while throwing a bullpen session Sunday. He visited a doctor this week to have the injury evaluated, pitching coach Ray Searage said.

Morton is not with the team in Baltimore for their series against the Orioles.
