Reiki Master to Share Her Life Lessons

Former Pittsburgh resident and a Reiki master Deborah Lloyd will return to give lectures on Friday and Saturday based on life lessons she learned during her own healing and spiritual journey.

Reiki is a technique for stress reduction, relaxation and healing originated in Japan in 1922 by Mikao Usui, a Buddhist monk. The term "Reiki" combines the Japanese word "Rei" (God's wisdom) with ki (life force energy, which is called chi in China, prana in India). Reiki practitioners believe most illness, stress and worry is a product of imbalances or blockages in the flow of ki through the body, which a Reiki master can correct with his or her hands by lightly touching the patient, or by manipulating them just above the body. Ki is transmitted through the palms of the hands, Reiki practitioners believe.

Ms. Lloyd was stricken with polio in 1956 at age 3 but was able to overcome her disabilities through Reiki. Living in Pittsburgh 1990-2006, she studied Reiki with a nun, Sister Mary Jo Mattes. …
