Three symposia and a lecture series are among major fall public programs offered by regional arts institutions and schools:

SAMA Browning symposium

The "Colleen Browning Symposium on 20th-Century American Realism" will be Monday at Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, Loretto, in conjunction with exhibitions of the late artist's work at SAMA Loretto and its satellites in Altoona, Johnstown and Ligonier Valley. Speakers will be Henry Adams, curator and educator (formerly at Carnegie Museum of Art and University of Pittsburgh); Gail Levin, Baruch College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York; and Jonathan Weinberg, artist and visiting professor, history of art, Brown University; moderated by Philip Eliasoph, author of "Colleen Browning: The Enchantment of Realism" and professor, Fairfield University. Frick Walter Gay symposium

A symposium, "Walter Gay and 'the Spirit of Empty Rooms,' " will be Oct. 6 at the Frick Art & Historical Center in conjunction with the exhibition "Impressions of Interiors: Gilded Age Paintings by Walter Gay." Panelists will be Priscilla Caldwell, catalog contributor and vice president of the James Graham & Sons Gallery, New York; Nina Gray, independent curator, New York; and Isabel Taube, exhibition guest curator and catalog author; moderated by Bill Bodine, director of the Frick Art & Historical Center. Carnegie World Fair symposium
