Mitt Romney Is Simply Wrong about Americans

Mitt Romney's remarks ("Romney Slams Obama Backers in Video," Sept. 18) that almost half of all Americans "believe they are victims" entitled to extensive government support are so disturbing one can hardly respond in a civilized manner.

Forty-six percent of Americans pay no income tax because they didn't make enough money to pay income tax and therefore they didn't owe any tax. According to Mr. Romney, 47 out of 100 people take absolutely no personal responsibility and care for their lives. Is he also suggesting that the unemployment rate is at 47 percent? Unless 47 out of 100 people are children or infants, how does he suppose they eat, buy clothes, pay utilities and even taxes on so much of what they do and buy?

Mr. Romney wishes to head the government, but it is not a government that he supports. Why does he always speak of it as something separate and apart, as if "the government" is an entity in and of itself, an entity that only he and his cohorts are entitled to run? …
