Domestic dispute uncovers pot operation

Pittsburgh police responding to the report of a violent domestic dispute on the North Side found a marijuana growing operation, leading to the arrest of a man on drug and assault charges on Sunday evening.

Gerald Sloan, 30, was arraigned Monday on felony charges of conspiracy, manufacturing drugs, drug possession, in addition to misdemeanor charges of simple assault and drug possession. He was released on non-monetary bond.

Police said someone called 911 to report that two people were fighting at a home on Pennsylvania Avenue. When officers arrived, a woman who was bleeding from the mouth answered the door and said she had fallen down the steps.

Officers searched the home, where they found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in an upstairs bedroom. They left to apply for a search warrant and later recovered nearly $3,700 in cash, equipment for a marijuana growing operation, 20 pounds of marijuana and scales. An additional $1,226 was found in Mr. Sloan's pockets.

The 24-year-old woman remained at Allegheny General Hospital Monday. Police said they were applying for a warrant for her arrest as well because she lived in the home with Mr. Sloan.
