Publisher to Reissue Child's 'One Shot' with Cruise Cover

Article excerpt

If you wait until Nov. 8 to buy a paperback copy of "One Shot," you will find Tom Cruise's photo on the cover.

The Bantam Dell Publishing Group will publish a movie tie-in edition of the Lee Child novel on Nov. 8 to coincide with the Dec. 21 release of the movie now known as "Jack Reacher." The photo on the book cover shows a close-up of the left side of Mr. Cruise's face, complete with a small bloody cut.

"Jack Reacher," adapted and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, was shot in Pittsburgh a year ago. It features Mr. Child's vigilante hero, an ex-military investigator who doubts the official version of events surrounding a deadly sniper attack.

The movie, also starring Rosamund Pike, Robert Duvall, Richard Jenkins, Werner Herzog and others, is rated PG-13 for violence, language and some drug material.

Making music and deadline

Instead of making a film on deadline, competitors in the 48 Hour Music Video Project will be charged with creating a music video in the allotted time.

At a kickoff Friday, teams will draw two bands and choose one to work with during the weekend. The band must supply a high-quality recording of an original song, and the partners will have 48 hours to design, shoot and edit a music video.

All completed videos will be shown Nov. 7 at Belvedere's Ultra Dive in Lawrenceville and Nov. 8 at AVA Lounge in East Liberty. See 48hourfilm.com/pittsburgh/48mvp/ for details.

'My People' series

At 7 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Kelly Strayhorn, live election coverage will be provided as a 10-minute short "The Interview" is paired with the 47-minute "Difficult Love" about black lesbians in South Africa. …
