Pedestrian, 60, struck by vehicle in Oakland

A 60-year-old female pedestrian was struck and critically injured by a vehicle at Bates and Atwood streets in Oakland Friday morning by a driver who fled the scene, police said.

Diane Richard, a Pittsburgh police spokeswoman, said investigators were seeking the public's assistance in locating a light-colored four-door, full-size sedan in connection with the incident that occurred about 7:30 a.m., as the pedestrian was crossing Bates. Surveillance footage is being processed that could give police a better description.

The victim, whose identity was not released, was taken to UPMC Presbyterian, Ms. Richard said. Those who may have seen the vehicle are asked to contact either 911 or accident investigators by calling 412-937-3051.

Motorcyclist critically injured in Veterans Bridge accident

A critically injured motorcyclist was taken to UPMC Mercy on Friday morning after crashing on a Veterans Bridge off-ramp.

Police said the motorcyclist failed to stop in time approaching backed-up traffic near the Sixth Avenue-Seventh Avenue split on the off-ramp, hit the back of a car and then a wall at about 7:20 a.m. Diane Richard, a police spokeswoman, said witnesses reported the motorcyclist was traveling too fast and changing lanes. His identity was not released.

Three firefighters injured in Brighton Heights blaze

Three firefighters were injured while battling a blaze at a house on Termon Avenue in Brighton Heights Friday.

The fire broke out shortly after 3 p.m. in the 1400 block of Termon and was under control an hour later, emergency dispatchers said. The injured firefighters required medical treatment for minor injuries.

The Red Cross said it provided housing, food, clothing and some Christmas gifts for the two adults and a child who were displaced by the fire.


Two killed in W. Mifflin crash

Two people were killed in a head-on car crash in West Mifflin Friday.

The crash was reported at around 2:50 p.m. on Camp Hollow Road near New England Road, said Bill Mattis, a West Mifflin dispatcher. The medical examiner's office said Anthony Carbone, 62, of Clairton and his passenger, Sandra Davis, 46, of Clairton were pronounced dead at the scene.


Police search for 3 men in Cranberry home invasion

Three men armed with at least one long gun and a pistol burst into a Cranberry apartment Thursday evening and demanded cash and drugs, leaving when two roommates escaped to call 911.

Five people Cranberry police described as "temporarily working in the Pittsburgh area" were in the apartment in the Laurelwood complex about 8:05 p.m. when three men -- two white, one black -- forced their way in and bound the occupants, police said.

About 15 minutes later, two more roommates came home. The robbers ordered them inside but they ran to a phone, police said. …
