Dallas Nt Is Indicted in Death of Teammate

A grand jury in Texas formally indicted Dallas Cowboys nose tackle Josh Brent on one count of intoxication manslaughter. Brent is charged in connection with a Dec. 8 crash that killed his friend and Cowboys practice squad member Jerry Brown and is out of jail on $100,000 bond.

A Dallas County district attorney's office spokeswoman said the indictment was returned Wednesday. Police in the Dallas suburb of Irving said Brent was speeding when his vehicle struck a curb and flipped. Brown was pronounced dead at an area hospital. Intoxication manslaughter carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. Brent could be eligible for probation.

The spokeswoman said no court dates have been set.


Defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson suffered a concussion and a knee injury in the team's loss Sunday against San Diego, and the rookie from Temple's status for the finale at Buffalo is uncertain. Wilkerson played every defensive snap against the Chargers, and the team said he showed no concussion symptoms until after the game. Then, he was tested. He will continue to undergo tests this week, but did not practice Wednesday. Quarterback Greg McElroy suffered an abdominal injury against San Diego, but he was a full participant in practice and is expected to make his second NFL start Sunday.


Arizona will give quarterback Brian Hoyer his first NFL start, less than three weeks after the team claimed him off waivers from the Steelers. Coach Ken Whisenhunt said this former Michigan State standout and New England Patriots backup will start in the season finale Sunday at San Francisco.


Linebacker Ray Lewis has been added to Baltimore's 53-man roster, but coach John Harbaugh said the 17-year veteran will not play Sunday against Cincinnati. Baltimore cleared room for Lewis, 37, by placing wide receiver LaQuan Williams on injured reserve. …
