Kittanning entered its game Friday night against Mars as the fourth-highest scoring team in Class AAA and hadn't scored less than 55 points in any of its 10 contests.

But the Planets changed that.

Mars held Kittanning to a season-low in points and handed the Wildcats their first loss, this season, 65-45, in Section 1-AAA play.

Matt Getsy scored a game-high 28 points for the Class AAA No. 2- ranked Planets (8-2, 3-0).

He scored 17 of the Planets' 27 points in the first half as they jumped to a 27-14 lead.

Sterling Henry led Kittanning (10-1, 3-1) with 16 points.

Other top boys games

* Class AA top-ranked Jeannette (10-1, 4-0) handed visiting Serra Catholic (9-1, 2-1) its first loss this season, 77-62, in Section 3- AA action. Damone Morton led the Jayhawks with 21 points.

* In a battle of top-five teams in Class AA, second-ranked Beaver Falls (8-2, 4-0) jumped to a 30-6 lead and cruised to a 68-45 victory against fifth-ranked New Brighton (9-2, 3-1) in Section 2- AA. Drew Cook led the Tigers with 23 points, and Elijah Cottrill added 19 points and 10 rebounds.

* Apollo-Ridge (9-1, 3-0) led by 20 points after the first quarter and cruised to an 87-69 win against visiting Deer Lakes (6- 4, 2-1) in Section 1-AA. Tre Tipton led the Vikings with 24 points.

* Tony DiNardo scored 19 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, made 6 steals and blocked 5 shots to lead Vincentian (9-0, 1-0) to a 79-56 win against Eden Christian (8-2, 0-1) in Section 2-A. Vincentian, the No. 3-ranked team in Class A, entered the game as the highest- scoring team in the WPIAL, averaging 82.9 points per game.

* Franklin Regional (6-5, 1-3) missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer, giving Class AAAA No.-4-ranked Gateway (7-1, 4-0) a 59-56 win in Section 2. Deon Cottrell-Baker scored 12 points to lead the Gators.

* Rohan Young hit a jumper from the sideline with three seconds remaining to give Bethel Park (9-1, 4-0) a 61-59 win against Peters Township (4-6, 1-3) in Section 4-AAAA. Wyatt Hagerty had 24 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Black Hawks.
