Council voted Monday to award a $206,279 contract to A. Merante Contracting Inc. for the Warriors Road sanitary sewer project. The company did the streetscape work between Manilla and Mansfield avenues.

Borough manager David Montz thanked officials for "hanging in" on the project for three years. It was initially considered in the 1950s. "I think the residents will be pleased," he said.

He said officials are still waiting for approval from the county for the Streetscape III project on Greentree Road between West Manilla and Pocono drives. The borough accepted low bidder Frank Zottola Construction Inc.'s bid of $459,605 last month but still needs county approval because the county is providing $250,000 toward the work.

In other action, Mr. Montz said there will be a meeting at 7:30 p.m. April 29 primarily to discuss the borough's financial responsibility to pay into Alcosan improvements.

Saying he considers it unfair for downstream communities to hold upstream ones "hostage," he suggested that the lines be transferred to Alcosan.

"It's not necessarily a cost savings, but it's a cost shifting," he said.

The special session is being held because Mr. Montz will be absent from the May 6 regular council session.
