Iup Women Fire Coach

Article excerpt

IUP athletic director Frank Condino told the Indiana Gazette the university fired women's basketball coach Jeff Dow Monday but did not give a reason for the firing.

"The university made a decision to not renew his contract," Condino told the newspaper. He said Dow was not fired for poor job performance, but would not elaborate.

Dow posted three 20-win seasons in his five years as the Crimson Hawks coach, including this year when he led the team to a 23-9 record and a second consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II tournament.

In five seasons under Dow, the Crimson Hawks were 108-40, made five trips to the PSAC playoffs, three trips to the NCAA tournament and won the 2009 PSAC championship.
