Foreign Affair Lance Jeter Enjoying Life Playing Pro Basketball Overseas

The ball goes in just as the buzzer sounds.

Sound familiar?

"I feel comfortable in those situations. It just comes natural," Jeter said.

While some things change, others stay the same.

It has been more than eight years since Jeter made the memorable shot at the end of triple overtime to help Beaver Falls beat archrival Aliquippa in one of the most memorable WPIAL championship games ever.

His most recent buzzer beater occurred this past winter on the other side of the world.

Jeter had dreamed of being a professional athlete since he was a kid, and the man looked at as being a Beaver County legend achieved his goal the past two seasons while playing basketball in Europe. Two years ago, Jeter played in a league in the Netherlands. Last season, he played in Germany.

"I've had some great experiences," said Jeter, a 2006 Beaver Falls graduate. "It's been a great experience to play over there and to learn different cultures."

Jeter played point guard for a team named ratiopharm Ulm. The franchise is located in Ulm, which is in southern Germany. The league ran from August until June, and the extended schedule included games in not only the German league (the Bundesliga), but also the Euroleague. Among the other Americans playing in the Bundesliga was former Pitt star Chevy Troutman. In Euroleague play, Jeter traveled to places such as Russia, Turkey, France and Belgium.

Beaver Falls coach Doug Biega knew Jeter as a student before he saw his immense athletic talent, as Biega was one of Jeter's teachers in seventh grade. Biega said he is quite proud of what Jeter has accomplished.

"He's a very focused young man," Biega said. "Seeing him as a shy kid [in seventh grade] to now being a quality young man, that's been the rewarding part. He's living his dream."

Jeter's journey toward his dream was a story of hard work and perseverance. …
