Broncos Lb Facing Bigger Penalty?

Von Miller lined up at his usual position Monday and flashed the freakish athletic moves that might soon be missing from the Denver Broncos' ramshackle defense.

Miller, an All-Pro linebacker, brushed past reporters after another stellar practice, choosing not to stop and talk about the latest report that he could be facing an even longer suspension that originally thought.

ESPN reported that Miller might have to sit out at least six games for violating the league's drug abuse policy. Previously, it was believed Miller was facing a monthlong suspension to start the season.

Miller had repeatedly expressed confidence he was going to successfully win an appeal of any pending penalty, insisting he had "done nothing wrong." Now, Miller is unlikely to go forward with such an appeal, which was expected to be heard today, ESPN reported.

Chiefs

Kansas City traded former Pitt wide receiver Jon Baldwin to the San Francisco 49ers for wide receiver A.J. Jenkins in a swap of disappointing first-round picks. Baldwin was the 26th overall pick of the Chiefs in 2011. He has just 41 catches for 579 yards in two seasons.

Jets

The quarterback competition is still wide open as the team prepares for its third preseason game. Coach Rex Ryan said he is uncertain whether Mark Sanchez or Geno Smith will start Saturday night against the Giants, let alone the regular-season opener Sept. 8 against Tampa Bay. Sanchez had an up-and-down performance in three quarters Saturday night in a win against Jacksonville. Smith, the team's second-round draft pick from West Virginia, struggled a bit - - going 1 of 6 in team drills -- as he returned to the practice field after sitting out the game to rest his sprained right ankle.

Patriots

Quarterback Tom Brady said he was scared for a while after hurting his knee in practice last week. But he found out soon after he was knocked down that he wasn't hurt seriously. …
