The president visited West Mifflin recently. Air Force One costs about $180,000 per hour, and Ospreys cost about $11,000 per hour and there were three of them. For the president to travel from Washington to Pittsburgh, the American people were saddled with nearly a half-million dollars in travel expense alone, so he could sign his name. This doesn't factor in the time and money for bodyguards, escorts, our police service or costs of the media feeding frenzy.

Republicans recently shut down the government for 16 days, which may have cost nearly $24 billion. The investigation of Barry Bonds cost up to $50 million. Investigating Bill Clinton's indiscretions, nearly $50 million. And how much might Pennsylvania flush down the toilet appealing voter registration photo IDs?

These are not the ways I want to see my tax dollars allocated! How about student aid and general infrastructure? Burdening new college graduates with a mid-sized mortgage payment for 20 years or more hardly seems like an adequate way of investing in our future. …
