HOUSTON - The Houston Texans are nearing a deal to trade quarterback Matt Schaub to the Oakland Raiders, a person familiar with the negotiations said today.

Schaub was Houston's starter from 2007 until last season, when he was benched in favor of Case Keenum after a terrible start to the year. The Texans were expected to contend for a Super Bowl last season, but instead became the NFL's worst team, sinking to 2-14, which tied the worst record in franchise history.

It was clear after last season that Schaub didn't have a future in Houston, but his departure looked to be imminent Thursday night when the Texans signed veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Houston also has the first overall pick in this year's draft, which includes top quarterbacks Teddy Bridgewater, Blake Bortles and Johnny Manziel.

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Brent Burns scored the tiebreaking goal with 3:59 to play to help San Jose beat Anaheim 3-2 on Thursday night and take sole possession of first place in the Pacific Division for the first time in more than three months.

Joe Thornton tied the game earlier in the third and got his second assist on the game-winner for the Sharks, who have won seven of eight to move two points ahead of Anaheim, although the Ducks have a game in hand. …
