Cedar Point Adding Two Rides May 10

Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio -- with 17 roller coasters -- is adding two family rides when it opens for the season on May 10.

The first is Pipe Scream, in which a 15,000-pound gondola spins and coasts over 300 feet of wavy track. The ride, in the Gemini Midway part of the park, reaches speeds of up to 43 mph.

It combines the "best of a roller coaster and flat ride in one," according to a park release.

Across the way will be Lake Erie Eagles, where guests will sit in one of eight "eagle" carriages that are suspended from arms 28 feet above the ground. As the ride begins, the carriages swing outward in flight. Guests will be able to adjust the flight pattern with a paddle to make it mild or wild.

Among other changes, the 15-year-old Camp Snoopy will be enhanced and the Jr. Gemini roller coaster will be renamed Wilderness Run. …
