As Penguin Nation licks its collective wounds and tries to push through the disappointment of being eliminated from the NHL playoffs, I'd like to offer my humble, positive perspective on what being a Pittsburgh sports fan means to me:

A) It's a game.

B) Out of 30 teams, the Pens were one of eight still playing Tuesday night - good job, boys!

C) While Lord Stanley's Cup is the ultimate prize (and I've had the privilege of watching "my team" hoist it three times in my life - a joy that fans of many other NHL teams don't know), for me the excitement of seeing the Penguins play so well throughout the regular season was rewarding enough. Anything past that is "icing."

As someone who cheered the black and gold on, even in the lean years when they couldn't make the postseason, I'm grateful to see the boys of winter win any playoff games. …
