Comfy, Easy Living in Style

Article excerpt

Interior designer Tracey Rapisardi relocated to Sarasota from Portland, Maine, nearly a year ago because she loves the weather and the water and had clients in Naples who told her to check out Sarasota. She fell in love with the town. Then her children moved here and that clinched her decision to move her business here.

Known for her easy, breezy beach cottage style of design in both traditional and modern interpretations, she is in demand for outdoor entertaining spaces as well as house interiors.

Her work is on view until Feb. 19 at the Robinson residence that is part of Jewels On The Bay, Designer Showhouse 2012. Rapisardi can be reached at 359-0208 or A portfolio of her work is available at www.

Q: Where do you live in Sarasota and what is your house like?

A: We bought a house in Sarasota to renovate and we're in the process of remodeling it in a modern Key West cottage style. We are designing it with simple architectural features. We have designed and made all different types of colorful custom furniture to fit and work with the spaces.

Q: What particular design style are you known for?

A: Whether the residence is 12,000 square feet or 800 square feet, contemporary style or vintage style, I can do a variety of different styles. It depends on what the client wants and how the home is to be used. But all of my projects are cozy and comfortable. I believe in easy living with a little bit of fun.

Q: Can your work be seen locally?

A: Yes, at the Robinson house for Jewels On The Bay, I designed the outdoor screened lanai, pool deck, the terrace under roof and the back yard. I designed the landscaping in the pool area to achieve an easy coastal and comfortable feel. People who tour the house love the "bubbles" in the pool which are just clear beach balls of various sizes.

Q: Will you be doing any seminars at the showhouse?

A: Yes, I've done one focusing on how to architecturally design storage spaces that look good and add interest to a house. Also, how to make every nook and cranny functional while having style. And I will do a book signing on Feb. 11 and Feb. 18 from 11-3. …
