Business-education awards Wednesday

The annual Business and Education Partnership Awards Breakfast will be held 7:30 to 9 a.m. Wednesday at Freedom Village, 6406 21st Ave. W. in Manatee County.

The awards recognize and honor businesses, organizations and schools that have worked to improve education in Manatee County.

First First Watch gets a facelift

The original First Watch restaurant in Sarasota has been expanded and updated.

Opened more than 25 years ago, the location in Square South Plaza, at 8383 S. Tamiami Trail, now has a larger lobby, new community tables, soft seating areas, modern artwork and completely remodeled rest-rooms.

The restaurant, known for its waterfront patio, was expanded by buying 1,053 adjacent square feet that formerly housed a dry cleaner, bringing its space to 4,681 square feet.

Since the south Sarasota location opened, Lakewood Ranch-based First Watch has opened nearly 100 restaurants in 14 states.

Social networking workshop set

State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota's Small Business Development Center, in partnership with the city of North Port, will hold a free lunch and learn workshop, "How Can Social Networking Impact Your Business?" from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at North Port City Hall at 4970 City Hall Blvd.

Author Tamara Patzer of Total Audience Market Immersion LLC will talk about how businesses can use social networking to increase their client base and income.

Patzer wrote "Ask Tami: Pinterest for Local Business" and "Ask Tami: A Logbook of 365+ Social Media Tips, Tricks and Tools." She has taught mass communications at the University of South Florida- Tampa and State College of Florida.
