Williams Homes' Sales Again Growing

After being rocked by the Great Recession, local builder and one- time industry powerhouse Bruce Williams Homes is experiencing a sales turnaround.

Sales at Williams Homes grew by 100 percent last year compared with 2011, the result of an uptick in both new home sales and renovations. In Lakewood Ranch alone, the company built 24 custom homes last year -- more than double the amount of 2011.

Williams Homes' properties ranged in price from $250,000 to $2 million, with the average house hovering around $550,000, the company noted. Additionally, renovations grew by about 50 percent.

"We were one of the first to go down in the crash, and now we are one of the first to come out," said Britt Williams, president of Bruce Williams Homes, which was formed by his father and a partner more than 40 years ago. "We're starting to see that with existing homes and new construction."

Williams Homes is the latest in a series of local builders, including Neal Communities, Medallion Home and London Bay, to report a resurgence of sales for the first time since the 2007 crash. …
