BASEBALL: They sweep Georgia teams in Showdown tourney

After the Venice High baseball team pitched two shutouts, coach Craig Faulkner said, "We've got more pitching where that came from."

The Indians not only swept all four games in two days of the Perfect Game Florida/Georgia Showdown, they did not allow a run in 28 innings.

Venice blanked Blessed Trinity, 9-0, in the final game Saturday night at City of Palms Park. Earlier in the day, the Indians got a complete game from Tyson Albert in a 2-0 whitewash of Cartersville.

Add the 5-0 victory over Savannah Christian and the 3-0 decision over Parkview, and Venice outscored the opposition 19-0.

Ryan Miller, Nick Longhi (six strikeouts) and Colin Critello teamed for a five-hitter in the finale at City of Palms Park.

Colton Lightner and Mike Rivera collected four hits in the 17- hit attack, as the Indians jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings, including scoring four in the first. …
