FOUNDERS CLUB: More than 50% of home sites sold, 7 years after high-end development debuted

SARASOTA -- Home sites in the 700-acre Founders Club are more than 50 percent sold out -- seven years after the upscale golf community's debut shortly before the Great Recession tanked sales.

After years of luxury homes sale being stuck in a bunker, demand is once again rising for the 262 single-family estates in the Sarasota subdivision, along with memberships to the club's golf and social programs.

The building boom in the Founders Club includes 23 new homes either completed last year or under construction, according to London Bay Homes, which owns the majority of the home sites in the community and manages on-site sales.

"New-home construction is more active today than it has been in many years," said Mark Wilson, president and CEO of London Bay Homes. "The construction activity is the highest level since the peak of the real estate market, which really speaks to buyers' confidence in the Founders Club. …
