Throughout March in Manatee County, historic sites and organizations are celebrating Manatee Heritage Days.

In Myakka City, a dress performance by Herrmanns' Royal Lipizzan Stallions will raise money to help the Myakka City Historical Society restore the community's 1914 schoolhouse.

Gates open at 3 p.m. Sunday for the 4 p.m. show at the Herrmann ranch, 32755 Singletary Road, Myakka City.

The event also features the Taste of Myakka, crafts vendors and children's games.

"Gabby Herrmann has been our main supporter," society President Marilyn Coker said. "Every year, she comes up with some new routine with the horses just for our fundraiser."

This year, the routine will feature a flag tribute to each of the branches of the U.S. military.

Proceeds from the event will go to the ongoing work to restore the 100-year-old schoolhouse, which is on county-owned land on Wauchula Road.

When completed, the building will be available for community use for shows, banquets and town meetings. …
