Tulsa Kicks off First Entrepreneurs' Week

Mayor Kathy Taylor knows how important entrepreneurs are when it comes to growing Tulsa's economy.

Knowing is just half of the battle and Taylor has teamed up with local business leaders to host the city's first entrepreneurship week, which starts today.

The week will host a number of events, including an American Idol- style entrepreneur contest and events promoting business programs.

The idea for the entrepreneurs' week came after Taylor and a group of business leaders made a trip to the Kansas City-based Kauffman Foundation, said Larry Mocha, chairman of the Tulsa Economic Development Commission. He was one of the leaders to attend.

It was there they asked how they could foster entrepreneurship, he said.

"Mayor Taylor wants to make Tulsa an entrepreneurial center," Mocha said, explaining that the city's job growth and business expansion comes largely from the small business sector.

For Tulsa it is a matter of promoting the success stories and helping new entrepreneurs. …
