NEW YORK - Alain Vigneault has an issue with linesman Scott Driscoll.

The NHL Players' Association announced on Saturday that Rangers right wing Dan Carcillo will appeal his 10-game suspension for applying physical force to Driscoll at 5:51 of the first period in Thursday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Canadiens in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals.

The Rangers' coach, perhaps risking an NHL fine, said the situation never should have occurred.

"My biggest disappointment in the whole thing is probably what's happening to Dan Carcillo," Vigneault said. "At the end of the day, if the right call is made on the ice, that whole situation doesn't happen."

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman will hear the appeal. Under Rule 40.5, the NHL must make its "best efforts" to schedule an appeal hearing before the second game of the suspension is served.

Carcillo, suspended or fined by the NHL for the 11th time, was apparently unaware he had received a two-minute minor for charging Brandon Prust. …
