TEANECK - Paramus has one of the commodities of high school football on its side. The Spartans have a veteran offensive line that was good enough to get them to the North 1, Group 4 final last year.

That unit appears ready to do its part in getting the team back to the championship game. And it certainly has given the Paramus running backs a shot of confidence.

Two of those runners stepped up Saturday night against Teaneck. Bryce Jacob and Derek De La Cruz found the end zone five times between them, leading the Spartans to a 46-13 victory and a 2-0 start.

Teaneck, coming off a win over Northern Highlands last week, got an 87-yard return of the opening kickoff by Christian Ozoria to take a 6-0 lead, a play that didn't sit well with Paramus coach Dan Sabella.

"We're not there yet," he said. "That [kickoff] was a sign of that; they took one back on us last year and it was the first thing we worked on in practice this week. …
