EMERSON -- Erin Archer's amazing goal highlighted Waldwick's 2-1 victory over Emerson on Friday.

Archer broke a scoreless tie just after halftime. A high ball bounced in front of the Waldwick senior and from 25 yards she hit a ferocious dipping volley just under the bar that Emerson goalkeeper Kassidy Germann could not reach.

"[Volleys] are the kind of thing you can work on forever, and never have one come off like that," said Archer, one of the Warriors' three captains. "It was kind of a surprise, but it felt great, and came at just the right time."

Archer's goal jump-started a game that was quiet for nearly an hour. The Warriors had begun to apply more pressure at the start of the second half, and their confidence soared after the goal.

However, Emerson equalized several minutes later. Melanie Whited got on the end of a bouncing ball, poking it past Waldwick's keeper to Devin Riker for a tap-in.

Waldwick did not panic, continuing to knock the ball into space down the wings. …
