Englewood Set to Add 4 Trailers for Class Space

ENGLEWOOD -- The district is set to install trailers at the D.A. Quarles Early Childhood Center this November, after the Board of Adjustment approved zoning relief on the site.

Earlier in the year, the school board approved the purchase of four trailers, also known as modular classrooms, at a cost of $200,000 to provide space for a growing enrollment at Quarles, which hosts pre-K and kindergarten classes. The board needed a variance approval from the Board of Adjustment, which was granted on Aug. 25. The variance, for a sideyard setback, was required because of the proximity of the trailers to adjoining lots.

The four temporary classrooms would hold 66 students at maximum capacity, planner Nicholas Graviano of Graviano Design Group said during the Aug. 25 hearing. Eighteen students now are being evaluated to attend class in the modular units, said Graviano.

The modular classrooms would connect to the drainage, water and alarm service from the main Quarles building, said architect Richard Bennett of Bonanomi and Bennett Architects. …
