EAST RUTHERFORD - Antrel Rolle started the self-examination of the 3-5 Giants by calling out the team's passion earlier this week. Jason Pierre-Paul took it one step further Thursday by declaring the team is not playing with enough "heart" thus far this season.

"At the end of the day, it's all about heart," Pierre-Paul said. "I can sit here and talk all day, but at the end of the day, it's all about the individual and what he's got going on. It's definitely been missing from a lot of guys. But we'll get it together."

With their season potentially slipping away, the Giants are aiming to play with more heart and passion when they face one of their toughest tests Sunday at Seattle.

If facing Seattle on the road isn't tough enough, the Giants will be attempting to do it with a ravaged secondary that is down three players and could be down a fourth after cornerback Zack Bowman went to the hospital with abdominal pain and missed practice. Bowman was later released from the hospital with viral gastroenteritis (stomach flu).

"It goes with the territory doesn't it?" Giants coach Tom Coughlin said of the depleted secondary. "We've got to go. There are guys, they obviously have been evaluated and next up, and they're here and we got to get them ready to go."

Since winning three games in a row in late September and early October to get above .500, the Giants have been dismissed in their last three games by Philadelphia, Dallas and Indianapolis. The latest loss, a 40-24 setback to the Colts on Monday, left Rolle, the team's vocal leader, questioning the passion of the group.

"On our sidelines, it's very dead; throughout the course of the game it's dead. We need a pulse," Rolle said on WFAN. "It needs to be shown that you care about this game. ... I'm not saying that we're not playing with passion. I'm saying we're not playing with enough passion. We're not playing with enough attitude. You've gotta go over and beyond, especially being in a position that we're in. …
