Power Play Helps Ridgewood Earn Tie

WAYNE -- Mired in a four-game losing streak and struggling to score goals, Ridgewood embarked on its Ice Vault Holiday tournament run against Montville looking to break out of its funk.

The Mustangs gave them a helping hand, racking up five second- period penalties that the Maroons were able to cash in for three power-play goals. Unfortunately, Ridgewood was unable to seal the deal.

A late third-period goal by Montville tied it at 3, and Maroon goaltender David Woodford had to fend off a penalty shot and make seven saves in the final three minutes to preserve the 3-3 tie Tuesday night.

With only five goals in the four-game skid and a 3-1 loss to Fair Lawn on Monday night fresh in their minds, the Ridgewood players were pressing to get things turned around. They had at least four 2- on-1 rushes in the first 20 minutes and each time they could not get a quality shot on goal, adding to their frustration.

Montville (5-1-1) began its penalty-box appearances early in the second and Harry Bahrenburg knotted the score at 1 just 3:11 into the period. …
