New Home for Hoops Sectional Finals?

Sectional championship basketball games could find their way to a bigger stage beginning in 2016.

Larry White, assistant director of the NJSIAA, said Wednesday in Robbinsville that the association is looking to move the sectional championships, typically played on the first weekend of March, to neutral sites such as William Paterson to avoid issues of overcrowding that have popped up in recent years.

"Right now many of these games are being held in gyms that can't handle them," White said of the sectional finals, which are played at the home of the higher seed. "We have gotten calls from people who have had to be turned away."

In other news, executive director Steve Timko said that the association is going forward with a plan to limit contact in football to 90 minutes per week during practices in the 2015 season.

The limit was proposed by the association's medical advisory committee and presented to the association's executive committee in November. The association's football committee is examining how to implement the restriction and whether it will include summer practices. …
