Immaculate Heart and Eastside, the top two teams in The Record girls basketball Top 25, each was an uncontested slam dunk for the top seed in the Bergen and Passaic tournaments. But that's been a given for weeks now.

The real drama at Wednesday night's seeding meetings rested on the choice of the No. 2 seed. Those are choices that can set the tone for the tournaments.

In Bergen County, that honor went to defending champion Northern Highlands, which winds up on the side of the bracket that includes No. 3 Immaculate Conception, No. 6 Westwood and No. 7 Teaneck. Highlands coach Al Albanese said he was just starting to think about what it will take to defend the title.

"I'm really happy about the seed," said Albanese, whose team has split with Old Tappan, beaten IC and lost to Ramapo by a combined nine points. "I pushed for that based on strength of schedule, the teams we played and the fact that we never duck anybody. …
