Civic Theatre to Perform 'Spamalot' at Henderson's Fine Arts Center

Article excerpt

When Evansville Civic Theatre needed a place to perform its summer musical this year, Artistic Director Chris Tyner immediately thought about the place he had "cut his teeth as a community theater director." That place just celebrated its 20th anniversary season and is on the campus of Henderson Community College.

So in July, Tyner will bring Civic Theatre's production of "Monty Python's Spamalot" to the Henderson Fine Arts Center for two weeks of shows.

It will be the longest run for a single production at the Fine Arts Center, said the center's Director Rachael Baar. Most of the shows the center hosts are single performances.

"Monty Python's Spamlot" will be performed Thursdays through Sundays from July 24 through Aug. 3. Curtain times will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

But first things first.

Tyner still is seeking his cast of singers, dancers and actors to perform the musical, and auditions will be held next week.

The first audition will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Fine Arts Center. The second audition will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Evansville Civic Theatre, 717 N. Fulton Ave. in Evansville.

Civic Theatre is looking for adults, college students and teens for the auditions, Tyner said.

Interested parties should come prepared with a memorized comedic solo with a CD accompaniment track preferred. A CD player and a piano will be available for use.

Individuals with sheet music must provide their own accompanist. Performers may be asked to learn a brief dance audition and will need to wear comfortable shoes and dress in a manner that allows freedom of movement.

Rehearsals for Spamalot will begin June 9 in Evansville and continue through July 10, typically 6 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.

Rehearsals will move to the Henderson Fine Arts Center July 14 until opening night July 24.
