The Hotel am Steinplatz in Berlin opened as a luxury hotel in 1913, in an elegant building designed by the German Art Nouveau- inspired architect August Endell, complete with sweeping arches and reminiscent of Moorish architecture. It immediately attracted an A- list clientele that included artists, writers and aristocracy. (Vladimir Nabokov and Brigitte Bardot were among its guests.) For the hotel's 100th anniversary, Marriott International extensively renovated the property, reopening it in December 2013 as a hotel in its Autograph Collection, marking the luxe boutique-inflected line's debut in Germany. Location The hotel is in a quiet spot on leafy Steinplatz in a residential area of affluent Charlottenburg (Steinplatz 4; 49-30-55- 44-44-0; hotelsteinplatz.com). It's a short walk from Humboldt University, the zoo and Kurfurstendamm. An underground station is minutes away on foot.

Room Service When the Restaurant am Steinplatz is open, guests can have a meal delivered to the room; from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. the late-night menu included treats like veal meatballs with pickled cucumbers (very tasty) and local favorites like jellied meat sandwiches with sauerkraut and smoked trout sandwiches with tarragon sour cream. …
