Siblings Win Subway's Exercise Competition ; $1,000 Grant Awarded for New Gym Equipment

Chase Middle School was the recipient Tuesday of a $1,000 grant from Subway as a reward for a student winning the Fresh Start Challenge, an exercise competition for students which began March 3.

Siblings Amber and Jeff Moore -- the former an eighth-grader at Chase and the latter a fifth-grader at State Street Elementary School -- were the winner and runner-up of the challenge, respectively. Amber Moore received a $250 gift card to Subway, and her brother received a $50 gift card to the sandwich chain. The grant will help pay for new gym equipment and games for the students.

"We were on vacation in Branson, Missouri, and my mom suggested we try out 'cause it would be good for us anyway," Amber Moore said. "We exercised a lot when it was really nice out."

An assembly took place at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the middle school to announce the grant award. Amber Moore said her favorite way to exercise is to play tennis with her family. Subway franchise owner Lyle Scott presented the check to Chase Middle School principal Teresa Springs. …
