Jackson County Juvenile Scares off Would-Be Burglars

A Jackson County juvenile managed to scare away two would-be burglars Thursday when they heard him talking to a 911 dispatcher and broke off their attempt to burgle a rural residence, authorities said.

Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse said the attempted break-in at a residence in the 9800 block of T.4 Road -- about one-half mile north of the Jackson-Shawnee County line -- seems similar to other recent burglaries in Jackson and nearby counties.

Residences at the end of long driveways or that are otherwise hidden from view have been targeted, Morse said.

Morse said the juvenile was home alone Thursday when he heard a pounding on the front door. From a hidden position, the youth observed two men in a dirty, dark blue passenger car with a possibly cracked, tinted windshield; rusty wheels; and a doughnut spare tire on the left rear side.

One man approached the residence with a crowbar, kicked in the back door and began searching the house. …
