Hayden's Heinen Named Centennial League Baseball Player of the Year

Hayden junior Brogan Heinen was named Centennial League baseball player of the year in all-league balloting by the league's coaches.

Heinen also was named all-league first team as a pitcher, one of 11 city players named to the 17-player first team.

Heinen is joined on the first team by junior teammate Jacob Head, with Heinen and Head leading Hayden to a Class 4A Division I state berth.

Washburn Rural, which went to the 6A state tournament, is represented on the all-league first team by seniors Trent McMaster and Tyler Palmer and junior Blake Peterson. Shawnee Heights, a 5A state qualifier, also put three on the all-league team -- senior Dayton Pomeroy and juniors Mason Gifford and Jesse Perez.

Seaman, which finished fourth in 5A, put junior Reid Fehr on the first team, while Topeka High is represented by junior Brian McKenzie, and Topeka West by junior Michael Mariani.

League champion Manhattan put a league-high five players on the first team -- seniors Henry deNoble, Jacob Biller, Bret Fehr and Kellen Myers and junior Jesse Steinbring, with Steinbring named the league pitcher of the year and Indian coach Don Hess getting the nod as coach of the year. Manhattan finished third in 6A. Junction City, which made it to the 6A state tournament, put senior Will Ervin on the first team.
