The Topeka Zoo since May has been promoting a special summer camp for children it will offer early next month featuring a Spanish- language interpreter.

But as of Thursday, the zoo still hadn't received any registrations for the camp from English language learners.

The city consequently sought to draw attention to the camp Thursday by putting out a news release as part of city manager Jim Colson's weekly report.

"We are hoping that one more push will get the word out," zoo director Brendan Wiley said in the release.

It indicated "Aventuras de Habitat" -- which is Spanish for "Habitat Adventures" -- is the theme for the camp, which will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day from Aug. 4 to Aug. 8.

"The week-long adventure will teach campers about many of the different places around the world that animals call home," the release said. "From an African bush camp, to the sands of the desert, campers will meet live animals and investigate how they survive in their respective habitats. …
