Man, 16-Year-Old Killed in S.W. Topeka Wreck

Topeka police Monday have released the names of two people who were killed in an early-morning vehicle crash in southwest Topeka.

James F. Bowen, 39, and Matthew R. Allen, 16, both of Topeka, were killed when the 2000 Toyota 4Runner that Bowen was driving struck an unoccupied 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee parked along the north side of S.W. 25th.

Topeka police officers at 12:43 a.m. responded to a vehicle crash at S.W. 25th and Villa West Drive, which is just west of S.W. 25th and Wanamaker.

Allen was riding in the front passenger seat, according to Capt. Brian Desch.

The area, including S.W. 25th, remained closed until 7 a.m.

About 6 a.m., a small group of people were talking with officers as a tow truck driver worked on removing a black SUV from the scene. S.W. 25th was blocked two blocks on either side of the site of the crash.

Information will be provided after the department's accident reconstruction team finishes its report, an officer said. …
