Knitters, Crocheters Invited to Create Purple Caps for Babies

Knitters and crocheters across the country will be clicking their needles together to make purple baby caps for Click for Babies, Period of PURPLE Crying Caps, an educational program for parents.

Yak 'n Yarn, a yarn shop in the Fairlawn Plaza Mall, is joining the campaign, which is in its fourth year. The campaign is sponsored by the Kansas Children's Service League in partnership with the National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome.

In August and September, knitters and crocheters are invited to take part in making purple baby caps. At 1 p.m. Aug. 19, Anne Auld, statewide coordinator for Click for Babies, will be at Yak 'n Yarn to help with the initiative. Anyone interested in learning more about the campaign or making the caps is welcome to attend, said Karen Taylor, owner of Yak 'n Yarn.

Taylor will offer free patterns Aug. 19, she said, and the shop will offer a discount on purple yarn through Aug. 23.

The baby caps, which will be collected by the Kansas Children's Service League, will be distributed to new parents at participating hospitals across Kansas in November and December. …
