Services for Topeka police Cpl. Jason Harwood will begin Friday and go into Saturday at the Kansas Expocentre, according to an obituary for the officer.

Harwood will lie in state from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday in Exhibition Hall. Memorial and burial services will start at 11 a.m. Saturday in Landon Arena at the Expocentre. Interment will follow in Penwell- Gabel Cemetery at S.W. 6th and Gage.

Residents are encouraged to avoid the area of S.W. Gage from Interstate 70 through the 400 block of the street from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, Gilbert said.

"The Expocentre will have seating designated for family, local law enforcement, visiting law enforcement, dignitaries and guests," the news release said. "Any person wishing to show support is welcome, and please remember one easy way to show respect of our fallen officer and his loved ones is by lining the procession route holding the American flag."
