Article excerpt

U.S. Senate candidate and Johnson County entrepreneur Greg Orman's financial disclosure report Monday set the range of his assets between $21.5 million and $85.9 million while establishing his income at more than $900,000 in the 20-month period covered by the summary.

Orman's campaign was launched several months ago, but he received an extension to make the mandatory filing with the U.S. Senate secretary because of the nature of his independent candidacy and necessity of gathering signatures to join the November ballot.

He is locked in a campaign with U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts, who had vulnerabilities exposed in the August primary against a tea party favorite and suffered anew when the Kansas Supreme Court allowed Democratic nominee Chad Taylor, of Topeka, to step aside.

Roberts, who is a three-term Republican senator, filed a report with the Senate in August placing his assets at $1.6 million to $4 million.

Information about Orman's wealth had emerged in chunks as he campaigned statewide as an experienced businessman, and the new public document provides a tool for reviewing his extensive portfolio.

"These filings highlight Greg Orman's track record of success as a businessman, starting companies and creating jobs," said Orman campaign manager Jim Jonas.

Jonas also said "career politicians in Washington have done nothing to create jobs or help small businesses in this economy" and that Kansans across the political spectrum were drawn to Orman.

The assessment of Orman's holdings stretches from January 2013 to the end of August 2014.

In addition to the asset range on the form, Orman's filing disclosed his income ranged from $917,000 to $4.5 million.

Orman outlined a stake of $5 million to $25 million in FRM Associates, a real estate enterprise launched in Minneapolis. His investments through GMG Real Estate were placed at $1 million to $5 million. The residential investment property in Idaho was valued at $1 million to $5 million.

The material supplied by Orman's campaign indicates his minimum asset level would make him among the wealthiest U.S. senators if elected in November. …
