Pedestrian struck, killed

A pedestrian was struck and killed early Sunday as she walked on a Pottawatomie County highway on the west edge of Manhattan, authorities said.

The fatality victim was identified as Angela Ressler, 48, of rural Manhattan.

Pottawatomie County Sheriff Greg Riat said dispatchers received a call about 12:37 a.m. Sunday regarding a pedestrian walking on US- 24 highway near Dempsey Road.

About a minute after the initial call, dispatchers received another call, this time reporting the pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.

A sheriff's deputy arrived on the scene around 12:40 a.m. and found the pedestrian, who was determined to be dead.

Riat said it was believed the pedestrian had been walking west in an eastbound lane of US-24 highway when she was struck by an eastbound Ford pickup truck.

Riat said no citations had been issued to the driver of the pickup truck as of late Monday morning. …
