Council Approves $23.5M in Bonds for Hangars by Tinker

OKLAHOMA CITY - City Council members approved $23.5 million in general obligation limited tax bonds Tuesday. The funds will go toward the development of a $500 million hangar complex near Tinker Air Force Base.

The 156-acre property, just north of Interstate 240 at Air Depot Boulevard, is owned by BNSF Railway. Issuing the bond debt is predicated on acquisition of the land by the U.S. Air Force in collaboration with the Oklahoma Industries Authority trust, Oklahoma County, the municipality of Oklahoma City and the Oklahoma City Economic Development Trust.

Greater Oklahoma City Chamber President and CEO Roy Williams said the project has been underway for several years.

"The development of this particular project, the complexity and the multijurisdictional partnership created, has been a phenomenal example of how this community works to create jobs and support vital economic drivers," Williams said.

Construction on a 14-hangar facility to support KC-46A tanker aircraft is expected to begin early next year with completion by 2018, Williams said. …
