Article excerpt

TULSA - Excellence Engineering earned the top spot Thursday at The Journal Record's Tulsa's Fast 40 event with a 393.9-percent jump in revenues over three years.

The event, held at the Hyatt Regency Tulsa, recognizes the fastest-growing privately owned businesses in the Tulsa metropolitan area. Rounding out the top three were Power & Control Engineering Solutions LLC and Cherokee Data Solutions. Power & Control posted three-year revenue growth of 301.1 percent, followed by Cherokee Data with a 257.1-percent increase.

The companies making the 2014 list of Tulsa's Fast 40 represent a variety of industries and offer a wide range of services. They were ranked based on percentage of revenue growth from 2011 to 2013. Added to this year's program was the Ones to Watch category, which honors thriving companies on the brink of such success. This year's honorees are featured in the Tulsa's Fast 40 publication, inserted into Friday's edition of The Journal Record.

Dee Hays, president and CEO of Excellence Engineering, attributed her company's recent growth to new shale plays that opened up thousands of drilling opportunities. Founded by Hays in 2001, Excellence Engineering started by focusing on electrical instrumentation and control engineering for the oil industry.

"We are now a full-service engineering company focusing on the growth and needs of the oil and gas industry striving to support the country's energy independence," Hays said. "Our growth was a direct result of energy growth in the country and horizontal drilling in shale plays. The company was just me, and when those plays took off around 2010 and 2011, that's when we really grew."

Hays said she anticipates continued growth for the company, especially as the industry continues to grow.

Mike Neal, president and CEO of the Tulsa Regional Chamber, said Excellence Engineering is a prime example of the success businesses can achieve in Tulsa.

"We are proud of (Excellence Engineering's) commitment to integrity and quality, and honored to recognize its contribution to growing the local economy and the impact it has on our region," Neal said.

The Tulsa Regional Chamber is a presenting sponsor for the event. Other sponsors are Cox Business, IBC Bank, HoganTaylor and GableGotwals.

"Cox Business is honored to help sponsor Tulsa's Fast 40 recognition event," said Chris Shipman, sales director for Cox Business/Tulsa. …
