Ethics Commission Seeks Public Input on Rule Changes

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma Ethics Commission will hold a public hearing Friday morning on a proposal that would make several changes in rules relating to things that state officers and employees may accept and events they may attend.

One section provides that the approval of the administrative officer of a state agency would not be required for elected officials to participate as a speaker or panel participant at a conference or other event. The rules already allow an event sponsor to provide transportation and lodging to officials if they are also provided to other participants.

Related language would allow a state officer or employee to accept a scholarship, grant or subsidy, including transportation, lodging, meals, entertainment and other items that are made available to other participants at events sponsored by government entities or an organization to which the state pays membership dues. The state officer or employee would be required to file a report with the commission. …
