JOS Buttler's hopes of making his Test debut next month are looking increasingly doubtful, with Alastair Cook admitting Lancashire's new boy still has work to do on his wicketkeeping.

And the England captain has revealed he is keen for long-term keeper Matt Prior, who was dropped during the 5-0 Ashes defeat over the winter, to overcome an Achilles injury and take his place behind the stumps in the first Test against Sri Lanka at Lord's on June 12.

Buttler is England's No.1 wicketkeeper in limited overs cricket, but moved to Lancashire from Somerset at the end of last season in a bid to improve his glove work and force his way into the Test side.

However, his chances of staking a claim have, ironically, been hampered by his England one-day duties restricting his Championship cricket to just three matches this season.

Even though new England coach Peter Moores signed Buttler for Lancashire, he also gave Prior his first Test cap and said while still in charge of Lancashire that he expected the Sussex wicketkeeper to be recalled to the Test side this summer. …
