ENGLAND v Italy is set to be one of the tastiest football games in the group stages of the World Cup.

So we cooked up a spicy appetiser - pitting two of Manchester's top celebrity chefs in a World Cup cook off to create the best of Italian and English cuisine.

In the blue shirt of Italy was celebrity chef Aldo Zilli, while wearing the red and white of England was Rochdale's culinary wizard Andrew Nutter.

Naturally, it had to be a battle between the trademark dishes of the two countries - a classic British fish and chips fighting a tasty Italian pasta.

Home advantage went slightly in Aldo's favour - who threw open his kitchens at celebhaunt Italian restaurant San Carlo on King Street West in Manchester for the cook-off to commence.

Chef Nutter said: "It's an old family recipe dating back to 1966 - from the last time that England won the World Cup. It's monkfish pieces in a beautiful tempura batter, with beer and ginger in there. And I'm making cheesy mushy pea balls, which is my take on a foodie version of a football. …
