LEE Payne is 'over the moon' with his first ever Elite League race win from Wednesday night.

The Leigh-based racer, who only made the switch to speedway just over a year ago, won heat nine of Belle Vue's 55-38 win over Wolverhampton.

Payne was brought in by the Rentruck Aces two months ago to replace Ben Reade in the reserve ranks, and the everimproving 28- year-old is delighted with his score of 7+1 - by far his biggest in the Elite League yet.

"I got my first win so I am absolutely over the moon.

"I had a couple of tough meetings before that so I feel really good.

"I have never been out in front on this track, so when I got out in front it just felt so much easier than being behind.

"When I got out in front, I was like 'another lap, another lap' and thankfully I managed to get to the finish, so I am over the moon. …
