HIGH jumper Chris Baker made a perfect start to his Commonwealth Games debut as Sale Harriers team-mate Alex Smith reached his own field final.

Baker didn't miss a height, qualifying for tomorrow's final but admitted he had no idea what to do next!

Jumping in the same pool as favourite and London 2012 bronze medalist Derek Drouin, the 23-year-old sailed over 2.11 metres, 2.16m and 2.20m at the first attempt.

England team-mates Martyn Bernard and Tom Parsons are also in the final 12 together with gold medal top tip Drouin.

"I was worried going into the competition because it is my first major Games as a senior," he said.

"But once I got my first jump in everything felt very smooth and very easy. The energy in the stadium was amazing and the crowd got behind all the athletes.

"That picked me up as I am not used to the early mornings. …
